A 2002 study published in the journal Animal Welfare detailed the reactions of dogs to different types of music. The results were clear. Dogs overwhelmingly spend more time in a relaxed state when exposed to classical music: they rest more, bark less, and are calmer when people come to visit.

There are also sounds in nature - babbling brooks, ocean waves, rainfall, songbirds and tranquil night sounds - that naturally soothe dogs.
